Alberto Ayala has 30 years of professional experience in industry, government, and academia and is currently Executive Director of the Sacramento Metropolitan Air Quality Management District. He was a Deputy Executive Officer at the California Air Resources Board, a Professor of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at West Virginia University, where he still holds an adjunct faculty appointment, and a Design Engineer with Teledyne Ryan Aeronautical. His internships were with GE’s Corporate Research Center in New York, the California Energy Commission, and the UC Davis Atmospheric Boundary Layer Wind Tunnel Laboratory.
Trained as an engineer with BS, MS, and PhD degrees from the University of California, Davis, he is an internationally recognized expert on air quality and climate science and policy and has authored more than 160 peer-reviewed publications and reports. He is a contributor to the book “Ambient Combustion Ultrafine Particles and Health” and author of “Three Forks in the Road, the Volkswagen diesel cheating scandal,” an upcoming book about the VW dieselgate scandal.
